(Note: In case you change your mind and decide not to stay overnight, we also have a comprehensive guide for Day tours from Phuket, Khao Lak, Krabi/Ao Nang, Railay, and Koh Lanta!)

Planning your stay? We’ve included a complete interactive map featuring the exact locations of the recommended hotels in each zone at the very bottom of this post.

Choosing where to stay is very important to make the most out of your visit to Phi Phi.

Before diving into the neighborhoods, it helps to understand the structure of the archipelago. While the islands are famous for their dramatic landscapes, the only island of the Phi Phi Islands archipelago that has hotels is Phi Phi Don. The rest of the islands, like the famous Phi Phi Leh where Maya Bay is located, are protected national parks with no overnight accommodations.

To help you plan, we have divided the best accommodation areas into three distinct zones. Read on to discover exactly where should I book a hotel in Phi Phi based on your unique travel style!

Decoding Your Stay: Where Should I Book a Hotel in Phi Phi?

We splitted the hotels into 4 different zones for this guide. Read below for tips for each zone.

Zone 1: Walking Distance from Tonsai Pier

This is the central hub of the island and the absolute most convenient location. Staying here places countless shops, local restaurants, and the main pier right at your doorstep. This convenience makes it incredibly easy to join activities, as almost all shared tours start directly from Tonsai Pier.

However, you need to choose your specific side carefully:

  • Zone 1A: Loh Dalum Beach (Northern Strip): This area is not recommended for families. It gets incredibly loud because Loh Dalum Beach is the primary nightlife hub, featuring vibrant beach parties that last until morning every single night. A popular choice for party-goers here is Ibiza House Phi Phi, famous for its pool parties. This area features the highest concentration of hostels, and the prices in zone 1A are likely among the cheapest you will find anywhere in Phi Phi.

  • Zone 1B: Tonsai Pier Side (Southern Strip): This side is much more quiet and peaceful, yet it still gives you the massive convenience of having restaurants and shops within an easy walking distance. Great options here include PP Princess Resort and Phi Phi Cliff Beach Resort. While prices in Zone B are slightly higher than Zone A, it is arguably the best area to stay if you want to be close to the pier, restaurants, and bars without dealing with excessive noise.

Zone 2: Viking Beach & Long Beach

If you want a break from the crowds, this zone is less convenient than Zone 1 but offers a much more relaxed, tropical atmosphere. Here, you will find just a few quiet restaurants and beach bars, with almost no shops around. Highly rated properties in this area include Viking Resort and Phi Phi The Beach Resort, which offers beautiful beachfront views.

  • Logistics & Tours: Shared group tours do not depart from this area. While the hotels themselves sometimes offer private tours starting right from the sand, our own shared excursions will require you to head to the main pier. If you want to book a private tour starting from here, we might be able to pick you up, but we will need to check what is possible and what the extra charge is. Contact us to check before you book here.

  • Getting Around: If you like to walk and are adventurous, it takes about 30 minutes to get to Tonsai Pier. It is still technically walkable, but the path is partly in the actual jungle! Fortunately, hotels in this area sometimes offer boat shuttles to Tonsai Pier, so please check directly with your accommodation.

Zone 3: The Eastern Part of Phi Phi Don

(Including Laemtong Beach, Loh Ba Kao Bay, and any hotel in the bays stretching down to Loh Moh Dee Beach)

This zone is perfect for travelers seeking total seclusion. Like Zone 2, it is less convenient than the main village but offers a deeply peaceful, upscale, and relaxed atmosphere with minimal shops and just a handful of resort restaurants. Incredible five-star options here include SAii Phi Phi Island Village or The Cove.

  • Logistics & Tours: Just like the previous zone, shared tours do not depart from these remote beaches. Resorts often arrange their own private trips from the shore. If you want to book a private tour starting from here with us, we might be able to pick you up, but we need to check what is possible and what the extra charge will be.

  • Getting Around: It is completely impossible to walk to Tonsai Pier from this side of the island. You will be entirely reliant on longtail boats to get to the main village. Many of the luxury resorts here offer their own scheduled boat shuttles to Tonsai Pier, so make sure to check the timetables with your hotel before booking.
